An Ireland South MEP is calling for the modernisation of Ireland’s free travel scheme.
Cynthia Ní Mhurchú believes free public transport access should be provided automatically for people aged 65 and over.
The Fianna Fáil MEP described the existing scheme as top heavy on administration and should be simplified.
She believes accessing free travel should be provided by simply showing identification.
MEP Ní Mhurchú says this reform would promote a more inclusive, age-friendly system, that would boost tourism and advance sustainability.
