Inland Fisheries Ireland is urging anyone that sees suspicious activity regarding the illegal harvesting of oysters to report it.
Sean Long is a director for the South West river basin district with Inland Fisheries Ireland (IFI).
He was speaking after over 1,000 illegally harvested oysters were seized in Kenmare Bay.
IFI officers saw people hand-picking the oysters in the bay, which is a special conservation zone and collecting oysters without a licence is illegal.
The oysters were returned to the bay after IFI recovered them.
