The HSE says 13 residents living in a privately-owned nursing home in West Kerry will be moved to alternative accommodation in the coming weeks.
HSE South West says the new owners of Ocean View Nursing Home in Camp plan to begin construction work on the site very soon.
In these circumstances, the HSE says it cannot meet its legal obligation to guarantee the safe care of residents during the work.
According to the HSE, residents of Ocean View Nursing Home, Camp and their families were informed today of the planned transfer.
The HSE says it’s aware the upset the transfer will cause for residents, and says they should have received more notice and time for consultation.
HSE South West says it was not informed until last Friday of the planned work.
The HSE says its staff will source safe alternative accommodation for all residents in the next two weeks.
Radio Kerry has contacted the owners of Ocean View Nursing Home for comment.
Since last September, the HSE has been the temporary provider of care at the Camp facility.
This followed the decision by the health watchdog, HIQA, to cancel Ocean View’s registration relating to compliance of regulations and standards.
This was before the new owners, Riada Care Ltd, acquired the facility.
