A HIQA inspection of a centre for adults with disabilities in Kerry found residents receive “a good quality service”.
Laurel Court, which is run by Dovida, was inspected at short notice by the Health Information and Quality Association (HIQA) in May (22nd May 2025).
Laurel Court provides a full-time residential service for up to three adults with intellectual disabilities, autism or who have physical and sensory needs.
This was its first HIQA inspection since the centre opened last December.
The inspector deemed Laurel Court compliant with twelve of the Health Act regulations against which it was compared, substantially compliant with four more, and not compliant with two.
The centre was not compliant when, after a safeguarding incident took place in April, it was not reported to the chief inspector within the required three working days.
It had initially been recorded as peer-to-peer behaviour, and so was not identified as a safeguarding concern.
It has now been retrospectively reported correctly, a safeguarding plan has been implemented for the resident, and further guidance has been provided to staff.
Overall, HIQA reported that care in the centre was person-centred and took the residents' wishes and interests into account.
