Heather Humphreys says she would have had no problem with an internal election in Fine Gael to select a presidential candidate.
She was selected as the party’s presidential candidate last week after Sean Kelly withdrew from the contest.
The Kilcummin native cited a sufficient lack of support from Fine Gael TDs and senators as a reason to withdraw.
Ms Humphreys, who is a former government minister says she has a great relationship with Ireland South MEP Sean Kelly.
