A group representing health stores in Ireland is concerned consumers here will be disproportionately affected by new regulations around the sale of supplements.
The Save Our Supplements campaign has been organised by Health Stores Ireland, a group which represents independent retailers in the sector, including Kerry stores.
A new EU directive governing food supplements including vitamins and minerals, aims to harmonise the maximum amounts sold across all EU states.
Hannah Dare of the Save Our Supplements campaign says the regulations would lead to a reduction of vitamin and mineral levels in some supplements sold here.
She uses the example of Vitamin D, of which much higher quantities are needed in Ireland compared to countries like Spain, because of our contrasting climates.
