Gardaí say rumours and speculation are not helping in the search for Michael Gaine.

Superintendent David Callaghan of Tralee Garda Station was speaking in Kenmare earlier.

It’s as An Garda Síochána have renewed their appeal for information on the missing 56-year-old, who was last seen on Thursday March 20th.

Superintendent Callaghan says the search will continue into early next week, and the case is being reviewed daily at Killarney Garda Station.

He described the investigation as unique; adding widespread rumours in the community are not assisting in the search:

Meanwhile, Gardaí have reiterated the appeal for privacy for the family of Mike Gaine.

On Wednesday, a family statement to Radio Kerry thanked the local community for its support over the past three weeks.

It said that some media coverage into Mr Gaine’s disappearance has caused them distress in an already very distressing situation.
