Gardaí continue to question a man in Kerry this morning in relation to the homicide of Kenmare man Michael Mike Gaine.
The man, in his 50s, was arrested yesterday evening, and detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act at a Garda station in Kerry.
The search for 56-year old sheep farmer, Michael Gaine began over eight weeks ago, after Mr Gaine was last seen in Centra in Kenmare on 20th March.
On Friday evening, Gardaí declared Mr Gaine's farm at Carraig East outside Kenmare a crime scene, after a member of the public came across matter that could be human tissue, in slurry from a slatted shed in the farmyard.
Then, on Saturday night, Gardaí confirmed that the tissue found was indeed human remains.
A preliminary investigation of the scene was carried out by State Pathologist Dr Sally Anne Collis and Forensic Anthropologist Laureen Buckley, assisted by the Garda Technical Bureau.
A man in his 50s was arrested yesterday afternoon, and is being detained at a Garda station in Co Kerry, where he can be questioned for up to 24 hours.
Yesterday evening, a hearse belonging to a local undertaker left Mr Gaine's farm near Moll's Gap, taking the remains to the morgue at UHK for a postmortem examination.
