A free concert will be held this evening (Saturday, 14 June) to celebrate Muckross House's opening to the public over 60 years ago.
Muckross House Research Library undertook two major projects to mark the occasion, both of which will be unveiled at 7.30pm.
It will begin with a selection of tunes from the Muckross House Music Collection, performed by Mary Mitchell and Karl Nesbitt, followed by a selection of reels, hornpipes and jigs in the true North Kerry tradition.
Featured dancers will include five-time world dance champion David Geaney, Jimmy Hickey, Mossie Walsh and Jonathan Kelliher.
The second project was the commissioning of a musical suite telling the story of Muckross House from its completion in 1843 up to its opening to the public on June 14th, 1964.
The Muckross Suite was composed by JJ O’Shea and will be delivered by Paul de Grae on guitar and keyboard, harpist Reidun Schlesinger, uilleann piper Barry Lynch, and Seán Abeyta on fiddle.
Admission is free but advance booking is essential on 064-6670162.
