It's expected that it will take a further 12 months before a final plan is agreed upon to extend the Kenmare bypass.
Cllr Johnny Healy-Rae expressed his disappointment at the delays at a recent Kenmare MD meeting, querying if the works would even begin before the end of the council term.
At a recent kenmare MD meeting, Councillor Johnny Healy-Rae expressed his concerns at the lack of progress on the extension of the Kenmare bypass.
He said at this point he had hoped a dialogue would have been opened between the council and landowners, and was under the impressions that tender had been put aside for the purchase of land to facillitate the works.
He expressed the necessity of the bypass for the town, due to heavy traffic congestion and the high volume of HGVs driving through the town centre.
Municipal District Engineer, Pádraic Teahan explained that the final design of the project needed to be confirmed before consulting with landowners, to ensure that threre was full transparency regarding the land required to complet the bypass.
A consultant for the project is about to be appointed, and the completion of the final design is expected to take a further 12 months.
Following this point, a dialogue between the council and the landowners will be opened, and the process of acquiring land to facillitate the bypass can begin.
