No person skipped bail from the district courts in Kerry over the past three years.
That’s according to figures obtained under Freedom of Information by Fianna Fáil Ireland South MEP, Cynthia Ní Mhurchú.
The data shows Dublin recorded the highest number over the period, with 1,065 people skipping bail, resulting in over €246,000 (€246,206.58) in forfeited money.
The figures outline that between 2022 and 2024, no forfeiture orders were imposed by the district court in Kerry.
562 people skipped bail nationally last year, which MEP Ní Mhurchú claims shows a cohort of defendants feel like they’re above the law.
The report says any forfeited bail money goes back to the Irish exchequer.
