Fears that Irish Water's pipe replacement works in Tralee will cause major delays

Irish Water has been asked to delay pipe replacement works in Tralee - due to begin next week - out of fear that it'll cause long traffic delays in the town centre, as the retail sector re-opens on Monday.

The call has come from Tralee Chamber Alliance, which claims it's been given no prior notice of the works and has not been consulted about their possible impact.

Irish Water intends to begin pipe replacement works on High Street and Strand Road, beginning on Wednesday next, May 19th.

The impact of these works will mean 'local access' only will be allowed, with 'minor' diversion in place at times.

Chief Executive of the Chamber Alliance, Ken Tobin, says the replacement of the pipes is welcome - but not at a time when road works elsewhere in the town centre are already causing delays:
