Fears new Killarney Community Nursing Unit won’t open until next year

There are fears that the new Killarney Community Nursing Unit won’t open until next year.

Work on the new 130-bed unit in Ballydribbeen started in 2022.

Residents in St Columbanus and Killarney Community Hospital will be moved into this new unit when it opens.

Initially, it was expected this community nursing unit would open during the first quarter of this year.

However, construction is now due to be completed in the third quarter of this year, and the HSE has said the unit will be transferred over in the last quarter of this year.

Labour councillor Marie Moloney says there are lots of processes to be done after that and she fears the unit won’t be open for patients this year:
