First-time buyers in Kerry would need to earn just over €62,000 a year to qualify for a mortgage.
That’s nearly €25,000 higher than the county’s median income of €37,000, according to new research by Chill insurance.
The study found the median price of a first-time buyer home in Kerry is now €276,000.
While Kerry is among the more affordable counties, Chill says no part of the country is fully affordable for a single buyer on the national median salary of €43,000.
Head of Personal Lines Sales at Chill, Ian O’Reilly, says many buyers are relying on combining salaries, exemptions, or looking below the median price.
