A €100,000 pilot scheme has been announced for MacGillycuddy Reeks landowners.
The Upland Recreation Scheme pilot will provide payments to farmers and other private landowners in the MacGillycuddy Reeks who undertake an agreed work programme.
The scheme will operate on a two-tier basis over the next three years.
Landowners on the principal access routes that receive the most recreational visitors to the MacGillycuddy Reeks will qualify for Tier Two supports, while landowners with less recreational visitors will qualify for Tier One supports.
The announcement has been welcomed by Minister Norma Foley and Deputies Michael Cahill and Danny Healy-Rae.
