The DPP has not yet decided which court will hear the case of a 33-year-old man accused of assaulting a garda in UHK.
Sunpree Singh Hansa, with an address at the IPAS centre Linden House in Killarney, appeared in Tralee District Court recently before Judge Mark O’Connell.
He also faces a charge of engaging in threatening, abusive or insulting behaviour at University Hospital Kerry.
It’s alleged that on 20th July, Mr Singh Hansa engaged in threatening, abusive or insulting behaviour in a public place; namely the Emergency Department of University Hospital Kerry.
He faces the same charge on the same date at another public place, in Rathass.
It’s also alleged that in the Emergency Department on that date, he assaulted a member of An Garda Síochána.
Separately, Mr Singh Hansa is accused of assaulting a different garda on 4th August at Tralee garda station, while the garda was acting as a peace officer.
This is a public order charge, rather than an assault charge.
He also faces 11 other charges, including allegations of minor thefts and public intoxication, in July and August this year.
In Tralee District Court, Sergeant Chris Manton said he’s awaiting directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions regarding the allegations of assaulting gardaí.
His solicitor, Brendan Ahern, said his client is applying for bail in the High Court, as he had been refused bail in the District Court.
Judge Mark O’Connell remanded him in custody to 17 September, for DPP directions.
