The director of SouthDoc has welcomed the announcement of funding for a local injury unit in Killarney.
Over €840,000 (€842,100) has been assigned for the appraisal stage of the proposed unit in Killarney, under the HSE’s newest capital plan.
The unit will focus on minor injuries like fractures, sprains, and burns, to reduce pressure on University Hospital Kerry (UHK).
The director of the out-of-hours medical service, SouthDoc, is Killarney GP Dr Gary Stack.
He expects the Killarney Local Injury Unit will be at St Columbanus’, and will be operational within two years.
