Deputy Mayor of Tralee describes Rose Wall vandalism as attack on town's culture

The Deputy Mayor of Tralee has described vandalism of a tourism monument as an attack on the town's culture and heritage.

Fine Gael councillor Angie Baily was reacting after €9,000 worth of damage was caused to glass at the Rose Wall in Tralee town park.

The incident occurred on Tuesday evening at 5.40PM, with Gardaí seeking the public’s help in locating a young man suspected of the damage.

Gardaí say he continued to throw stones at the Rose Wall until it shattered, before fleeing.

Cllr Baily says the incident is deeply upsetting and it’s a strike at the heart of all in the community:

Gardaí in Tralee are urging anyone who was in the area at the time or local businesses with CCTV footage to come forward.

The suspect, who was among a group of two males and tow females, is being described as a young male in his late teens, wearing blue shorts and a blue t-shirt.

Sgt Lynda Brosnan is appealing to anyone with information to contact Tralee Garda Station.
