Cordal native David Walsh was described as a person who carries the spirit of Kerry wherever he goes as he was presented with the Kerry Person of the year Award in Dublin last night.
Cathaoirleach of the Kerry Association in Dublin, Mary Shanahan said Mr Walsh leads with inspiration, integrity and always with people at the heart of the mission.
The Kerry Senior Team, management and Kerry GAA also received the 2025 Laochra Chiarraí award at the same function.
Mr Walsh, who is founder of Netwatch and HaloCare, was described as someone who has consistently shown leadership, integrity and bold thinking in business. Cathaoirleach Mary Shanahan said that the honour was not only for what he had achieved in business but for who he is including the charity work he has undertaken in Haiti and for the cancer research foundation in honour of his late wife Beatrice Pembroke Walsh.

Mr Walsh said he has always brought Kerry with him and he spoke of the life lessons learnt from his parents and others during his childhood in Cordal. He said that people like Mick O Dwyer had taught him to aim high in life and others like Denis Brosnan had shown it was possible to run a global business from rural Ireland.
Mr Walsh said his parents had taught all their children to be the best versions of themselves and said his father would quote the saying “if you don’t stand for something, you will fall for anything.
Kerry people Mr Walsh said stand for something, and stand by each other.
In presenting the Laochra Chiarrai award to Kerry GAA on behalf of the Kerry Senior Team and Management Ms Shanahan said that they had brought huge joy to the county in 2025. She said that those that wear the Kerry jersey represent not just a place but a spirit, a legacy, a community and an identity.
