The CEO of the Courts Service has said pre-planning work on a new courthouse for Tralee will begin soon.
Angela Denning was responding to a question from Kerry Fianna Fáil TD Michael Cahill during a recent meeting of the Oireachtas Committee on Justice, Home Affairs and Migration.
In 2023, the Courts Service bought a 0.2-hectare portion of the former Denny bacon factory site in Tralee town centre from Kerry County Council for €160,000, to build a new courthouse.
Despite consistent criticism of the condition of the current courthouse by legal professionals and public representatives, no funding has been allocated to progress this new courthouse since the land was bought.
Courts Service CEO, Angela Denning, says there is a lot of preliminary work that must be done before the planning process begins.
