Councillors will write to the Transport Minister and RSA requesting an NCT centre be located in Dingle.
It follows a motion at the recent Castleisland-Corca Dhuibhne MD meeting by Fianna Fáil councillor, Breandán Fitzgerald.
Speaking at the meeting, Cllr Fitzgerald noted that since he last tabled a motion for an NCT Centre to be located within the municipal district, that one has opened in Castleisland and it’s doing very well.
He said this is great to see, but he still believes there should be a car test centre in every local electoral area in Kerry.
Cllr Fitzgerald outlined that if someone from Dunquin wants to get their NCT done, they’ve to drive at least an hour and a half to get there.
He said to drive this long, when the whole purpose of the test is to have vehicles roadworthy and not take unnecessary journeys isn’t feasible, and more services are needed.
Cllr Fitzgerald added there’s queues and waits already in all the centres across Kerry, so additional centre are needed, especially one in the Corca Dhuibhne area.
The motion was seconded by Fine Gael councillor Tommy Griffin who noted there’s a very effective CVRT facility in Dingle, and an NCT Centre would compliment this service.
