Councillors in all of Kerry’s municipal districts have agreed to draft budgetary plans today.
These meetings at Áras an Chontae were in anticipation of the county council's 2026 budget being considered on 24th November.
Director of Finance at Kerry County Council, Angela McAllen, told councillors that the council still has not balanced the budget and that it remains a very difficult year.
She said no Local Property Tax meeting was held as councillors had previously decided to increase LPT by 10% for three years.
The meeting heard a decision by the council at the LPT meeting last month, resulted in an increase to councillors allocations, to €40,000 per councillor.
Councillors in the Killarney Municipal District unanimously approved its MD allocation of €220,000.
That includes €105,000 for the strategic development fund, which this year will specifically help the public realm, provide equipment for Killarney Sports and Leisure Centre, and match funding for the Killarney Teen Hangout space.
€95,000 has been set aside for Community Support Fund projects, and €20,000 for town operations commitments.
The meeting was told that Kerry County Council expects to receive an additional €900,000 through Local Property Tax from revalued properties, based on estimates from Revenue.
The Kenmare MD is to receive a General Municipal Allocation (GMA) of €120,000, which includes a community support fund of €55,000.
The remaining €65,000 has been allocated to the Strategic Development Fund, for projects including the Kenmare Town centre first masterplan and the Killorglin town centre SMART project.
Listowel Municipal District councillors approved a GMA of €153,000, which includes €70,000 for the Strategic Development Fund 2026.
This will provide partial funding for the renewal of Listowel town square (RRDF Grant Funding), the Platforms for Growth project at Ballybunion, upgrades to Ballybunion main street, the Shannon Way, the Listowel greenway trailhead facilities, and recreational enhancement at Ballyheigue.
This morning the Tralee and Castleisland-Corca Dhuibhne Municipal District’s approved their draft budgetary plans.
