Councillors express frustration at lack of works in Cahersiveen

A Kerry County Councillor has expressed frustration at the lack of progress to works in Cahersiveen town.

Independent Cllr Johnny Healy-Rae said the projects needs to see ‘boots on the ground’

Questions over the progress of refurbishment works in Cahersiveen were raised at the most recent Kenmare Municipal District meeting.

The project includes the renovation and extension of the Carnegie Community Building, and a one-way traffic system for Bridge Street, Quay Street and O’Connell Street.

The improvements are expected to cost over €8 million in total.

The works had been due to get underway in the second quarter of last year, with the Carnegie Community Building closed since November 2024.

Cllr Healy-Rae says there is very little evidence of progress and more ‘on the ground’ work needs to be done.

He said the condition of streets and footpaths in Cahersiveen town is one of the most pressing issues facing Kerry County Council.

Fianna Fail Councillor and Cathoirleach of the Kenmare MD meeting, Norma Moriarty, agreed with the points raised and said waiting for approval from central government is ‘infuriating’.
