Councillors are calling for action amid concerns there’ll be a serious collision at a North Kerry junction.
Councillors Jimmy Moloney and Aoife Kennelly both tabled motions relating to the Clieveragh junction at the recent Listowel Municipal District meeting.
Both councillors have previously called for safety measures at this junction and claim people are avoiding it out of fear.
Fianna Fáil councillor Jimmy Moloney told the meeting he has been repeating himself for three years now with this issue.
He said Charles Street in Listowel was a busy now as it was before the bypass opened because people are avoiding the Clieveragh junction.
He says people need to have confidence with this junction, and he added it’s been very lucky there hasn’t been a serious accident there.
Cllr Moloney asked the council if a safety audit of the Listowel Bypass been completed and what the recommendations were.
Fine Gael councillor Aoife Kennelly also asked the council if anything had been done to alleviate the fear of road users at Clieveragh junction.
She told the council people are panicking at the junction and it’s only that people are going so slow because they are nervous that there hasn’t been a serious accident there. She also told the meeting she feels there will be a serious accident at this junction.
In response to both motions, Kerry County Council stated the Stage 4 Road Safety Audit for the N69 Listowel Bypass has been completed.
It says the National Roads Office is reviewing the recommendations and will provide a briefing to councillors in the coming weeks.
