A first-time councillor has says tidal swimming pools are "definitely achievable" in Kerry.
Councillor Tommy Cahill asked Kerry County Council to explore the feasibility of providing tidal swimming pools along the Kerry coastline.
He said sea swimming has increased in popularity tenfold in recent times, with people of all ages engaging in the activity year round.
Cllr Cahill claimed the benefits of sea swimming, both mental and physical, are well known, and that tidal pools offer a safe haven for sea swimmers, especially when seas are rough.
Management told the Kenmare Municipal District councillor that it would be happy to undertake feasibility studies should suitable sites and funding streams be identified.
Cllr Cahill said Mayo County Council is already running such a pool in Belmullet successfully, and suggested Fenit in particular should be considered here.
He also suggested Rossbeigh, Cromane, Derrynane, Kells, Cuas Crom, White Strand, Ventry, Ballybunnion, and Ballinskelligs as potential locations.
