A councillor says if Castleisland has to wait for the town masterplan for additional disabled parking, it’ll be waiting years.
Charlie Farrelly made the statement at the recent meeting of Castleisland-Corca Dhuibhne Municipal District.
Cllr Charlie Farrelly tabled motions urging for the provision of additional disabled parking bays in Castleisland town.
He outlined that spaces should be provided along the main street near the Post Office and AIB, while he says blue bays should also be at the bottom of the town, near the Forge.
The independent councillor told the meeting that a survey conducted earlier this year found that one in four people in the area suffer with a disability, and ample parking is a priority.
In response, Kerry County Council said that the Castleisland Town masterplan will consider these requirements.
Cllr Farrelly responded saying if this is the case we’ll be waiting for years.
He asked the council’s engineering department to go back and have a look at these areas to see what could be done, similar to the recent provision of disabled bays outside the Island Centre.
The motion was seconded by Fianna Fáil councillor, Fionnán Fitzgerald.
