A Kerry County Councillor says it is mind boggling that it’s taking over two years to get street lights fixed in Listowel.
Cllr Jimmy Moloney is calling for a more efficient process for repairs to be put in place.
He tabled a motion on the issue at the recent Listowel Municipal District meeting.
Cllr Jimmy Moloney told the meeting there are ongoing issues with public lighting in the area.
He stated there are two lights in the small Square which haven’t been working for two winters, plus another light in Church Street that has been out since January.
He said it’s mind boggling that it’s taking two or 2-and-a-half years to try and get a light fixed; he said the current system isn’t working and called for a more efficient process for repairs to be put in place.
Kerry County Council maintains 14,034 public lights across the county providing lighting to streets, laneways, and roads.
The council said it remains committed to delivering and maintaining a safe and high-quality public lighting environment for all road users and the wider community.
There are currently 35 faults logged on the public lighting system for the Listowel MD, which represents 1.36% of lighting stock in the MD.
21 of these faults are awaiting attendance by ESB Networks (ESBN) and the council says the timeline for repair is outside its control.
The council says it’s actively pursuing the remaining 14 faults with the maintenance contractor and the PLEEP Contractor as appropriate.
