Councillor calls for €100 fine for those who do not attend HSE appointments

A Kerry county councillor is calling for a fine of €100 to be imposed on people who do not attend HSE appointments without cancelling in advance.

Independent councillor Podge Foley proposed the fine for people who miss appointments without a valid reason.

He told the council chamber that no shows are "devastating" as they waste the time of surgeons, nurses, and sick patients waiting to be seen.

Cllr Foley thinks such a fine would act as a deterrent, change patient behavior, and allow the Health Service Executive to treat more patients.

The council will now write to the Minister for Health about the matter.
