A North Kerry councillor says it’s deeply frustrating having to chase the council and ESB to fix public lights.

Fianna Fáil councillor Jimmy Moloney was speaking at the recent Listowel MD meeting and stated some lights in the area have been out for over two years.

Figures provided in response to his motion, show 16 public lights within the municipal district are out of operation for over three months.

The council says the ESB are required to fix 12 of these, while the local authority will attend to the remainder. (for issues including PLEEP faulty lanterns, damaged poles and access issues)

Seven of the non-operational public lights are located in Ballybunion, five are in Listowel, two are located in Ballyheigue, while there is one each in Duagh and Ballyduff.

The motion was seconded by Sinn Féin councillor Tom Barry who raised a similar motion and stated theses need to be addressed immediately.
