Council urged to install tide clocks on popular North Kerry beach

Kerry County Council has been urged to install tide clocks on the Ladies Beach in Ballybunion.

Fine Gael councillor, Aoife Kennelly tabled the motion at the recent Listowel MD meeting.

She says locals are aware of how quickly the tide can change here, and having tidal clocks on the beach are a practical option to make the beach safer.

The council responded advising that during the summer season, lifeguards provide temperature and tidal information on chalkboards; adding funding is not currently available.

Cllr Kennelly stated that lifeguards are not there all day or year round, and the installation of the clocks would take some pressure off them.

She asked the council to investigate the price of installing them, stating their addition would save lives.

The motion was seconded by Fianna Fáil councillor, Jimmy Moloney.
