Kerry County Council has been urged to develop a blueway between Castlemaine and Callinafercy piers.

Fine Gael councillor Tommy Griffin tabled the motion at the recent meeting of  Castleisland-Corca Dhuibhne Municipal District.

Blueways are recreational trails along waterways, offering various attractions and activity amenities along the route.

In response, the council stated it supports the provision of such infrastructure and recognises the benefits of active travel and outdoor recreation.

It said it will facilitate such provision, where it can be demonstrated a development will not have significant environmental effects.
