Kerry County Council will again seek the public’s input to choose a preferred route for the Tralee to Listowel greenway in the coming weeks.
At the recent council meeting, Sinn Féin councillor Paul Daly asked for an update on the project.
The Tralee to Listowel greenway is being developed by Kerry County Council and Transport Infrastructure Ireland.
It’s expected to be 28-30km in length, connecting the Tralee to Fenit Greenway, and the North Kerry Greenway which runs from Listowel to Abbeyfeale.
It aims to create a sustainable transport link between Tralee and Listowel, and the villages of Abbeydorney and Lixnaw, but the exact route it will take has not yet been decided.
In response to Cllr Daly’s motion, the council said the first public consultation was undertaken in December 2023, on which feedback was received to identify route options.
A second public consultation was undertaken in September 2024, where several route options were displayed – again the council received feedback to facilitate further assessment.
Kerry County Council says a third public consultation will be held in the second quarter of the year to identify the preferred route.
The council added public access to the route for people living along the greenway will be given careful consideration throughout the planning and design stages of the project.
Design and environmental evaluation is the next step after a route is chosen.
