Council expects Listowel flood relief works to be “substantially completed” in first quarter next year

Kerry County Council says flood relief works in Listowel are expected to be substantially completed in the first quarter of next year.

The update was provided in response to a motion by Fine Gael councillor Aoife Kennelly at the recent Listowel MD meeting.

The council says onsite works are expected to commence by the end of this month and weather permitting, they’ll be finished during Q1 2026.

Minister of State Kevin Boxer Moran announced over €500,000 funding for flood mitigation measures two weeks ago, and stated machinery is already on the ground in Listowel and Killocrim.

The council advised once the details are finalised, a timeline and details of the programme of works will be provided.

Supporting the motion, Cllr Michael Foley said once the works are completed he hopes funding can be secured for further major flood prevention works.
