The company behind major plans for the historic Phoenix Cinema in Dingle has announced its intention to apply for planning permission.
The cinema was bought in late 2024 by visual artist Yvonne McGuinness and her husband, Oscar-winning actor Cillian Murphy.
Since then, several public meetings have been held, allowing the community to have a say in the future of the not-for-profit regional cultural centre planned for the site.
Phoenix Projects (Company Limited by Guarantee CLG) intends to apply to Kerry County Council for permission to develop the 0.145-hectare site at Dykegate Street (Sráid Na Dadhgaide) in Dingle (Daingean Uí Chúis).
The development would include multi-disciplinary performance spaces, a multi-purpose studio, a gallery and gallery shop, a screening room and cinema, a workshop space, a bar, restaurant and café, and two artists' residential studios.
The site is partially located within an Architectural Conservation Area.
Elements of the existing buildings would be demolished, and the new development would extend across three existing structures, ranging in height from one to three storeys.
A central courtyard would connect the centre, which would have a total floor area of over 2,000 square metres (2,029.2 sq. m).
Two terraces at first and second floor levels are proposed, overlooking the courtyard.
The main entrance to the centre would be from Dykegate Street, while a new secondary access point for pedestrians and vehicles is proposed along Avondale.
The site also has frontage onto The Mall River.
The planning application may be inspected at the offices of the planning department at County Buildings, Rathass, Tralee.
