The Children's Rights Alliance has welcomed Minister Norma Foley's announcement that Tusla will conduct welfare checks for 42,000 closed cases.
The announcement is made in light of the discovery of Daniel Aruebose’s body in Donabate, Co. Dublin on Wednesday.
The three-year-old had not been seen in a number of years, and Gardaí were alerted to his case by Tusla to begin an investigation in August.
CRA is calling for an additional €50 million in Budget 2026 to provide for child protection and welfare services citing that referrals to Tusla have increased by 70pc since 2019.
Dr Naomi Feely, Policy Director at Children's Rights Alliance says it remains to be confirmed what resources will be put in place to carry out the closed case checks.
