The Minister for Children says she supports the proposed Valerie’s Law legislation.
Kerry Fianna Fáil TD Norma Foley was responding to calls made by David French on Radio Kerry.
His sister Valerie was murdered by her husband James Kilroy in 2019; Mr French has lobbied the government to introduce Valerie’s Law.
The legislation would remove guardianship rights from a parent, convicted of killing the other parent.
Minister Foley says her department are working with the Justice Minister to ensure the bill moves forward.
She states Tusla’s primary role is focused on representing children, and the agency does not envisage itself having a role in criminal cases.
