A man, whose sister was murdered by her husband, is urging Children’s Minister Norma Foley to support passing Valerie’s Law.
David French’s sister Valerie was murdered by her husband James Kilroy in 2019.
He is urging the government to introduce the legislation, which would remove guardianship rights from a parent convicted of killing the other parent.
It's in the programme for government, however, Tusla is reported as objecting to the bill, arguing that maintaining contact with the birth parent is in a child’s best interest.
Mr French says he has no objection to parents convicted of this crime having contact with their children.
He called for support from Kerry TD’s on Valerie’s Law, in particular Minister for Children and Fianna Fáil TD, Norma Foley.
