Chair of Oireachtas Sport Committee pays tribute to Killorglin rower for speaking out on alleged mistreatment

The Chair of the Oireachtas Committee on Sport has paid tribute to Kerry rower Monika Dukarska for raising concerns over Rowing Ireland’s high performance programme.

Representatives from Rowing Ireland and Sport Ireland appeared before the committee yesterday following allegations of the mistreatment of athletes over a number of years in its high performance unit.

The Sunday Independent reported that Killorglin rower Monika Dukarska gave evidence in private to the Oireachtas committee last week, in which she alleged the environment was governed by fear and selected silence.

Chair of the Oireachtas Committee on Sport, Alan Kelly, welcomes the independent review, and also paid tribute to Killorglin rower Monika Dukarska.
