Castleisland-Corca Dhuibhne councillors have given the green light to land provision for over 2,500 new homes within the MD.
Elected members adopted variation No.3 of the Kerry County Development Plan at a recent municipal district meeting.
Councillors from the Castleisland-Corca Dhuibhne MD voted to adopt the proposed variation to the Kerry County Development Plan 2022-2028.
It sets out a comprehensive local planning framework with policies and objectives, including land use zoning, in the interests of the common good.
The newly adopted plan includes making approximately 24 hectares of ready-to-develop residential zoned land available in the Municipal District.
It brings the overall residentially zoned land in the area – which includes, Castleisland, Dingle, Milltown and Farranfore - to 69 hectares.
Kerry County Council says the adoption offers the potential to accommodate up to 2,600 new housing units.
It added the plan ensures sufficient residential and employment lands are provided to meet the future development needs of the Castleisland-Corca Dhuibhne MD.
The council says following the adoption of this variation, the total residential zoned land in Kerry is now 342 hectares.
