The 15% tariff on packages worth over €85 into the US will hit Kerry crafters and small businesses especially hard.
That's according to Dingle Peninsula Tourism Alliance's marketing advisor, Caroline Boland.
An Post will keep packages in Ireland until American customers pay the 15% tariff to the US government.
Caroline Boland of the Dingle Peninsula Tourism Alliance says this means that if the customer refuses to pay the tariff, the item will be returned to the Irish seller.
This would be a loss for the Irish business, because not only would they have lost the sale, but they would also already have paid for shipping.
An Post states that "despite these actions by the US administration, there is no impact on letters, documents or parcels containing gifts valued at €85 ($100) or less, provided the necessary documentation for the parcel is completed at the Post Office counter when it’s being posted".
The postal service's spokesperson added "Businesses can access information, advice and assistance at anpost.com/USA .
Dingle Peninsula Tourism and other business interests will be travelling to New England for The Big E state fair in September.
Ms Boland says they intend to use the opportunity to assess the impact of the US's new tariff policy on Americans who buy from Ireland:
