A Kerry county councillor from Killorglin wants the government to prioritise funding for walkways and cycling tracks alongside rivers.
Independent councillor Podge Foley proposed a motion at the recent full Kerry County Council meeting.
He said that these amenities would take a lot of cyclists off the roads and bring tourists to more rural parts of Kerry.
He argued that land along riverbanks isn't good for agriculture because of 'moisture'.
Cllr Foley expressed his frustration at he what he perceives as inadequate prioritisation of smaller rural towns and villages like Killorglin.
