There are calls for more Gardaí to be allocated to the Listowel Municipal District.
Sinn Féin councillor Tom Barry tabled a motion on the issue at today’s Listowel MD meeting.
He wants the council to write to the Minister for Justice as he feels the MD is being overlooked when it comes to the allocation of new Gardaí recruits in Kerry.
Cllr Barry feels it’s a vast area and says it could take 30 minutes for a Garda car to travel to some parts of the municipal district.
He says while initiatives like See Something, Say Something are working well, nothing compares to having Gardaí on the beat:
