Briefing papers to the Minister for Environment highlighting the vulnerability of Ireland’s energy supply yet again highlight the need for an LNG terminal in North Kerry.
That’s the view of Fine Gael councillor for the Listowel Municipal District, Michael Foley, who was reacting to briefing papers and studies on energy security which were released to RTÉ under Freedom of Information.
The documents state Ireland is highly vulnerable to the impact of gas supply disruptions, and damage to our subsea gas interconnectors would have a catastrophic impact on the country’s energy supply.
Cabinet has since approved a state-led gas storage unit, and removed its policy statement on the importation of fracked gas, opening the door for commercial facilities such as the proposed Shannon LNG project.
Cllr Michael Foley says these documents compiled for Minister Darragh O’Brien once again show the need for an LNG terminal in North Kerry.
