The book of evidence against a Knocknagoshel man accused of the possession of a large quantity of cannabis will likely be served next month.
Father-of-four Peter Collins from Knocknagoshel village, who is in his 40s, appeared at Tralee District Court this morning.
Mr Collins previously faced two charges arising from a joint operation by the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau, and the Kerry Divisional Drugs Unit, over 14 months ago.
The court previously heard that during this operation, a drugs seizure involved cannabis with an estimated value of over €1 million.
The Knocknagoshel man was charged with the possession of cannabis, and possession of the drug for sale or supply, which are both contrary to the Misuse of Drugs Act.
At Tralee District Court this week, Detective Garda Ger O’Sullivan gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution for a third charge that has now been brought against Mr Collins.
This alleges the possession of cannabis for sale or supply, while the value of the drug was greater than €13,000, contrary to Section 15A of the Misuse of Drugs Act.
Garda O’Sullivan said Mr Collins was arrested on today’s date at Tralee District Court for the purpose of charge, and he made no reply to the new charge.
Judge David Waters said the value of the drugs is clearly in excess of that which would be dealt with in the District Court.
Judge Waters remanded him on continuing bail to 21st May, and Sergeant Chris Manton said he would be quite hopeful to have the book of evidence against Mr Collins on that date.
