An Post is to open its new base in Monavalley, Tralee before the end of the month.
It’ll move from Edward Street and An Post says it plans to put that building on the property market.
It had previously been expected that An Post’s Monavalley site would open at the end of last month, however, An Post has confirmed that it’ll now open on August 25th.
An Post mail and mail staff will move to the Monavalley facility on that date, but the post office at Edward Street will be staying in place.
However, An Post says the Edwards Street post office will be part of any sale or future development plans for the site.
Fifty-two staff based in Edward Street will be joined by around 30 colleagues from Listowel, four from both Castlegregory and Castleisland branches and three staff from Ballyheigue in a new purpose fitted delivery service unit.
Previously, calls were made for the Courts Service to buy the An Post depot site which backs on to the existing courthouse in Ashe Street.
These calls were reiterated since the Courts Service’s plans to build a new courthouse on the Island of Geese haven’t progressed due to a lack of funding.
Former Kerry County Councillor Johnnie Wall says the Courts Service should reconsider its plans for the Island of Geese, now the An Post is moving from Edward Street:
