A new An Post premises in Tralee is expected to open by the end of July.
In March last year, planning was granted for a massive new postal unit at the former BorgWarner facility in Monavalley.
An Post says the spike in parcels is running at unprecedented levels and the new facility aims to alleviate this volume.
Meanwhile, the company says the redesignation of postal routes in Kerry is in line with the changing needs of customers.
It's understood sorting offices for Listowel and Abbeyfeale will be relocated under the changes.
An Post previously stated the new facility will process local area postal collections and deliveries, a function carried out at Edward Street in Tralee.
It also aims to remove many vehicle movements from the town centre, including HGVs for deliveries, and its distribution fleet.
In a statement to Radio Kerry, An Post says the move to the new unit in Monavalley is in line with significant changes to its operations nationwide, to build a more efficient and sustainable postal delivery service.
The company says its mail service has been going through significant transformation for over a year, including redesigning many delivery routes, and adjusting some schedules.
Claims had been made that postal workers who have been on routes for over 20 years are being told to relocate, take up new roles or in some cases lose jobs.
According to An Post details are currently being finalised with local staff and these will be announced at a later date.
It's understood under the changes that the Listowel sorting office will be relocated to the new Tralee facility; while the Abbeyfeale office, which operates from Listowel, will relocate to Newcastle West.
A representative from the Communications Workers Union has told Radio Kerry that some smaller postal offices in the county will be impacted.
The spokesperson says travel times will be bigger in some instances but this is necessary to maintain efficient service to the routes.
They added all changes have been done by agreement between local committees and An Post.
It's understood the new An Post facility in Monavalley is scheduled to open on July 28th.
