Almost 400 deer were culled in Killarney National Park in 2025
That’s according to the latest figures from The Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage
392 deer were legally killed in Killarney National Park between the 1st of January and 12th of December this year.
The Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage said that of this number, 276 were Sika deer and 116 were red deer.
For the 2025/26 deer hunting season, of the 6,514 licences issued, 265 of were registered to Kerry.
This number is down compared to previous years; 292 deer hunting licenses were issued for last year and 381 licenses for the 2023/2024 season.
Deer hunting licenses are issued under section 29 of the Wildlife Act which allows culling during the open season – this period depends on the sex and breed of deer, as well as their location.
