There has been an almost 40% drop in the number of fires attended by the Kerry Fire Service during first two months of the year.
That’s according to figures compiled the by Kerry Fire Service.
These figures that outline the numbers and types of call-outs the service attends.
The Kerry Fire Service experienced an over 20% decrease in mobilisations in January and February, compared to the same period last year.
The fire service was mobilised 202 times up to the end of the second month of the year, which is down from 254 the previous year.
There was an 80% drop in gorse fires, with four up to the end of February, down from 20 in the same period of 2025.
Chimney fires increased by 8%, at 14 in the first two months of 2026, up from 13 over the same time frame last year.
There was a 17% increase in the number of road traffic collisions attended by the Kerry Fire Service.
It responded to 28 crashes in January and February this year, up from 24 during the same period the previous year.
In total, the fire service attended 42 fires in Kerry in the first two months of the year, down from 68, a 38.2% reduction in a year.
