Over €4 million in funding has been announced for two fire stations in Kerry.
It’s part of over €328.5 million announced under the Fire Services Capital Programme by Housing Minister James Browne.
The funding has been welcomed by Equality Minister and Fianna Fáil TD Norma Foley, Deputy Michael Cahill, Fine Gael Senator Mike Kennelly, Minister of State Michael Healy-Rae, and Independent TD Danny Healy-Rae.
The Fire Services Capital Programme was developed by the National Directorate for Fire and Emergency Management (NDFEM).
It aims to modernise the fleet, infrastructure, training capability and communication systems of the fire service nationwide.
Under today’s announcement €4.2 million has been allocated to fires services in Kerry.
Kenmare fire services will receive €3 million for a new fire station headquarters in the town.
€1.2 million has been allocated for upgrades of the existing Killarney fire station.
Meanwhile, Kerry County Council has been allocated one Class B fire engine appliance worth an estimated €500,000.
