Air quality monitoring devices could be installed in Killarney.
Independent Alliance councillor Michael Gleeson asked the council if the air quality in Killarney town and valley has improved since the introduction of the smoky coal ban.
He says the ban was welcome, especially due to the area's low-lying nature.
Kerry County Council says it's in discussions with the Environmental Protection Agency to install ambient air quality monitoring in the vicinity of the town.
A ban on the burning of smoky coal came into effect in Killarney on September 1st last.
